Peeta Mellark
Although the struggles of the Seam are unknown to Peeta Mellark, he has still faced struggels that made him into a fighter worthy of the Champions Village. Peeta is the only son of a baker and his wife. Although this would seem like the one place in a place so desperate as District 12 that food would be plentiful, the Mellarks lived a life off of stale bread and stale relationships. Despite the hidden struggles of his home life, Peeta is a caring and gerous person, risking beating from his parents to Katniss, cold, starving, and hopeless. Showing his true character and kind heart that evenutally helped him become a victor.
Although Peeta's love for Katniss helped them both make it out of the Hunger Games alive, Peeta has many other atributes. From a lifetime working in a bakery, Peeta has not only developed a deep knowlegde of all things bread related, he has also strength on his side. Peeta ends up being one of the most underestimated tributes because of great hidden strength. From his upbringing, Peeta also developed a great eye for details. From decorating cakes to sell to District 12, Peeta can create uncanning camoflage in the games. Although this skill doesn't seem that usefull, this more than his strength saves his life in competition.

"Well there is this one girl. I've had a crush on her since I can remember. But I'm pretty sure she didn't know I was alive until the reaping.""Winning . . . won't help my case.""Because . . . because . . . she came here with me."page 130
"It's the final word of camoflage. Forget chucking weights around. Peeta should have gone into his private session with the Gamemakers and painted himself into a tree. Or a boulder. Or a muddy bank of weeds."

One important part of the Games and their out come, is Peeta's state of mind that he shares with Katniss.
"No, when the time comes, I'm sure I'll kill just like everybody else. I can't go down without a fight. Only I keep wishiing I oculd think of a way to . . . to show the Capitol they don't own me. That I'm more than just a piece in their Games."
